The MAD Billy Kart Derby is a combined schools and community initiative organised by the MAD Billy Inc Group, and supported by Freezer and SU Victoria school chaplains through the National School Chaplains' Program (NSCP).

It was created to encourage school and community connectedness in the Murrindindi and surrounding districts.

The event is a family fun day and is charity-based, with all proceeds raised before and on the day of the event going towards local youth groups and clubs in the district.

Schools Events

The schools events are for competing schools to design and build their own karts to race head-to-head against other local schools.

The schools events aim to raise awareness and funds for both schools and local youth groups and clubs. The students are encouraged to gain sponsorship towards their karts both before and on race day. 50 percent of proceeds will go towards their school of choice with the other 50 percent channeled back into local community youth connection programs through the MAD Billy Group. These funds are used by MAD Billy Inc. to mobilise and support community run youth groups and clubs.

The students also learn valuable practical skills through design, construction and engineering as they build their karts. Project management, research, public speaking, teamwork and creative thinking are also learnt and used in the process.

The students race their karts in four categories: Primary (prep - year 6) secondary (year 7 - 12) sprint racing event and the teams relay event that requires four persons to race. First, second and third places will also be acknowledged with MAD Billy Kart trophies for 2018. Whilst the schools that win the relay races will be engraved on the perpetual trophy and take home the coveted trophy for 2018.

Creative design: First, second and third awarded to the team of the cart judged most creative design by a panel of judges from our sponsors.

Time trial races: First, second and third awarded to the fastest karts of the day judged by the timekeeper marshals and officials

Teams Relay: First, second and third awarded to the fastest relay team of four up and down the track on the day as judged by the timekeeper marshals and officials.
